Menu & Navigation

The accessibility of our buildings is something we are always looking to improve, and we have made adjustments with lifts, ramps, talk announcements and signage over the years. At most of our locations, there are a few rooms and areas that are inaccessible. These inaccessible spaces are classrooms and studios, rather than core facilities. Accessibility to our programme is ensured through timetabling in our accessible spaces.

We have done mobility training with visually impaired students to enable them to safely access and navigate our buildings.

Creekside

Creekside is our most accessible building. It is on a traffic free site and has automatic doors to the main building, and lifts to the library and all studios. It does have some heavy doors and, though it confirms to building regulations, the main slope is too steep for some wheelchair users.

King Charles Court

King Charles Court is on a UNESCO World Heritage site, and we have only been able to make limited improvement to accessibility. It is a traffic free site, with lifts and ramps to make most areas accessible. There are, however, a few practice rooms that have step only access, and several classrooms on the third floor where there is only access via stairs. There is a platform chair lift to the Students’ Union space, and lifts to the Old Royal Naval College and the Recital Room at Blackheath Halls, which are often used as performance spaces. More detailed access plans are available from Student Services.

Laurie Grove

Laurie Grove is mostly accessible. It is a self-contained site with lift access to the first floor, but studios 5 and 6 are not accessible with step only access. Access to the Performance Labs is via an external route. Core facilities and student spaces are accessible. Admin staff and programme leaders are based in an office with a flight of stairs, but meetings with them can be arranged in other spaces.
