MA / MFA Dance Leadership & Community Practice
Course details
Introduction
Are you looking to build a career as a creative dance teacher, leader or facilitator? This programme will enable you to develop the knowledge, confidence and entrepreneurial skills to make a difference in people’s lives through creativity and dance. It will support your understanding of dance as a socially relevant, creative, applied and inclusive practice, and will springboard your career in dance and the arts sector.
Key Features
Dance is a powerful tool to build relationships within communities and to give people a creative outlet. It is proved to support wellbeing, rehabilitation and enjoyment of life. On this postgraduate programme you will be immersed in a learning culture for creative dance practice. You’ll build expertise in a socially engaged and inclusive pedagogy of relational ethics and care. Your skills in project management will equip you with the practical knowledge to create opportunities for dance to change lives and help people to thrive.
You’ll be taught by a range of expert tutors and visiting experts in the field, using heart-centred pedagogy as the overall approach to teaching. This will provide practical examples as well as inspiration to support your professional growth. Trinity Laban is a recognised centre of excellence for community dance. As a student you’ll collaborate with the Participation and Public Engagement team, who will provide real world experience of working with people with very different needs in the community dance field.
The programme is delivered onsite at Trinity Laban, so you will benefit from being part of a wider postgraduate community of artists. You’ll have access to state-of-the-art dance facilities and extra-curricular opportunities such as practical technique classes, cross-programme collaborative projects and a multitude of dance and music performances.
You will be supported to find your own artistic and pedagogic identity, and to set your own goals within a positive and nurturing environment. Study builds up into a self-selected area of practical research where you can develop individual areas of interest and experience, leading to a MA or MFA qualification.
